New England Fall Foliage Links & Ideas

Now that Labor Day is over it's that one time of the year when we all look forward to seeing _________. Your say your guess is "what is when people stop wearing white for $200 Alex"? Okay, so maybe there's two things we all look forward to, the other being the turning of the leaves and the fall foliage color. And since that's cleverly enough the title of this entry, that's what I'm going to write about. Well, that and also because we're going to be travelling back east in the fall specifically to see this, so I've done some research on it lately.

What prompted all this? Well, two things. First was flipping our calendar the other day to see that we're taking off on vacation back east, and it's coming up quickly. The other thing was this article, entitled "Five best autumn drives in New England". This article is taken right from the pages of Yankee Magazine's September issue, and the cover of the magazine is reason enough to travel to New England. Yankee Magazine is full of ideas on where to go and what to see, but it's its sister site, Yankee Foilage, that is the most useful for fall foilage planning purposes.

YankeeFoliage.com has links for each state, and then within that state, ideas for family events, fairs and festivals, hiking and driving tips, photography tips, "do's and don'ts", and the best planner on how to find peak color.

Another great resource is New England Foliage Central. It has lots of good articles, driving routes, trip planners, photos, and other assorted information. Probably the most useful link, other than the driving routes, is the links for each state's fall foliage centers.

Boston.com has a nice foilage map which is found here.

Pittsburgh's Post-Gazette, had a great article, with lots of links related to fall foilage.

Yahoo has a huge listing for fall foilage sites.

If you want to see some pretty photos of what the area looks like in the fall, you can go here.

You can get some great brochures on the area here.

Last year, MSN had a great article entitled "Where’s the best fall color? Navigate the web before hitting the road for fall foliage" that covered more areas than just New England, and Gorp.com also had a good article that was more generalized for the US.

Well, I'm definitely looking forward to our trip, and after checking out some of these sites, I think that you'll want to book one too!
